The 2019 / 2022 season is the first time this shiel was played for, and once again Ierne were the winners. The shield is contested for by teams knocked out in the first round of the John Bray Cup. It is played on a knockout basis.

The shield commerates Pat Merrigan who was an Irish International player and won individual Europen titles in 2011 & 2012 at Senior level. He played for Millmount in the league.
